Kanaio / Molokini Snorkel by Blue Water Rafting
Duration: Approx. 5.5 Hours
Our Ultimate Snorkeling Adventure! Dolphins, sea turtles, sea caves, remote snorkeling sights including La Perouse Bay and up to 3 Molokini snorkel spots including the backside of Molokini. Trip includes breakfast, lunch, beverages and snorkel gear.
Spinner Dolphins The Kanaio Sea Caves… Passengers can expect a rare treat as they tour along Maui’s Gold Coast past Wailea and Makena to a remote and inaccessible coastline with spectacular views of the slopes of Mt. Haleakala. About 200 years ago at Kanaio, molten lava exploded from a side vent and poured into the ocean forming incredible lava arches, grottos and sea caves. Photographers will delight with the array of unique formations that await at every turn.
Dolphins Dead Ahead!… Following Kanaio, you will cruise to the protected waters of La Perouse Bay, frequently encountering a pod of spinner dolphins , including babies, along the way or in the bay itself. Named for their acrobatics, these playful mammals will frolic in the wave produced by our boat sometimes only a few feet from the bow!
On many occasions, our snorkelers have been approached by dolphins while in the water. This experience has been described as spiritual and is a visual and auditory experience that one never forgets.
A continental breakfast is served around this time and a remote snorkeling site may be offered (time and conditions permitting) such as the La Perouse Pinnacle which is teaming with fish.
Molokini Crater… After departing La Perouse Bay, you’ll head for Molokini, a short 20 minute ride from the bay. There we will generally offer up to three unique sites including the inside rim, the outer reef and the back side of the crater. By this time of the day conditions at Molokini are generally calm and most of the bigger boats have departed or are departing leaving plenty of room for uncrowded snorkeling.
Butterfly Fish Drift snorkeling the outer reef… is one of the many highlights of this tour. Imagine snorkeling one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world drifting gently along with the current as your boat follows near by for your safety. Glide past a variety of butterfly fish, wrasses, black and pink tailed durgeons, all posing against a backdrop of beautiful coral only 3 feet below … truly a photographers dream!
For an exciting panoramic view, venture over to the edge to witness an awesome 200 ft. drop. It’s like looking off the edge of the world!
Back Side… (optional site) Time and conditions permitting, another drift snorkel may be offered on the back side of Molokini, a favored dive site for advanced scuba divers. The depth here is about 300ft. but the lighting and the view of the vertical wall of rock, coral and fish is phenomenal. This site may also be offered as an alternative to the inside under certain sea conditions.
Turtlely Cool!… Departing Molokini, we make one more stop in Makena where we serve a delicious buffet lunch and snorkel with sea turtles and spotted eagle rays near pristine lava fingers. these turtles, although endangered and protected, are accustomed to seeing snorkelers and do not mind being photographed as they surface for air just a few feet away.
The variety of scenery and wildlife encountered both above the surface and below truly make this tour one of the most comprehensive snorkeling adventures available on Maui.
Molokini & Turtle Town Snorkel by Calypso
Duration: Approx. 5.5 Hours
Our super deluxe Calypso boat has 3 decks, 2 water-slides & an underwater glass-walled viewing chamber. 9 swim steps for easy access to the water, and a “leap of faith” jump from the second deck. Choosing your Molokini snorkeling boat is a delightful decision to make, and a tour with the Calypso is one of the most fun on Maui! This stable, high-speed, triple-decker catamaran will get you to two snorkel sites fast: Molokini Crater and Turtle Town, and with all the equipment you need.
The Calypso leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor, and after you are welcomed aboard by your friendly crew, you can take a look at the delicious hearty breakfast. After everyone is settled in, it’s off to the most popular underwater destination in Maui for some Molokini snorkeling! While you are enjoying the feel of the ocean wind in your hair, from December through April, watch the horizon for the incredible humpback whales!
Even if you have never snorkeled before, or you are not a strong swimmer, you can still snorkel with the Calypso: the crew will patiently instruct you in the use of their snorkel gear. In addition to the essential mask, fins, and snorkel sets, the boat also offers prescription masks and comfortable flotation devices. You can also rent a wetsuit to help you keep warm, and rent an underwater camera to bring home shots of the amazing animals you’ll see!
If you don’t want to snorkel, swim, or snuba, Calypso has a glass bottom in one section of the boat, so you can watch your friends watch the fish. And if you decide to join them later for your own Molokini, Maui snorkeling experience, reaching the water is simple. Wide staircases are lowered through the water’s surface, so all you need to do is walk down the stairs. If you’d rather go express, this boat also has two water slides and a second deck jumping-off point. Oh, wow!
After your Molokini snorkeling, Calypso will whisk you to Turtle Town – a second snorkeling spot. Off the south side of Maui, Turtle Town is home to several large sea turtles as well as dynamic reef fish. A barbecue lunch with vegetarian options will be served at this time, and water, sodas, and juice are available all day long. And just when you think the trip couldn’t possibly get better, they come around with chocolate chip cookies.

Lani Kai’s superior speed does not only take you to Molokini fast, it also let’s us ride on top of the waves when the water is rough and provides a comfortable and stable cruise.

The main goal for our crew is to provide you with an awesome Maui snorkeling experience and treat you as individuals, not as a crowd.
If you are an experienced snorkeler, they let you follow your own path in the water within sight distance. They help beginners with all their needs until you feel safe. Even if you cannot swim, you can learn to snorkel. We don’t spoil your experience with a lot of microphone talk. Ask our crew about anything you want to know.
The Lanai Snorkel Tours
Lanai Snorkeling & Dolphin Encounters by Quicksilver
Duration: Approx. 5 Hours
One of the most unique places you can snorkel on Maui is actually off Maui, on Lanai! Just 8.8 miles across the channel is the Pineapple Isle – Maui’s closest neighbor island. Now home to two opulent resorts with their own golf courses, Lanai used to be agricultural land for the world’s largest pineapple plantation. Long before that, it was one of the banishment sites for Maui’s lawbreakers. (The other island used for that purpose was Kaho’olawe.) Today, the Quicksilver catamaran’s Lanai snorkeling tour gives you the chance to visit this incredible place.
The nearshore waters of this island are home to sheer cliffs, craggy rocks, and coral reefs full of colorful marine life and some of the best Maui snorkeling spots. A large pod of spinner dolphins lives offshore and spends a considerable amount of time in the channel. It is very common for our guests to witness these incredible marine mammals diving, leaping, and swimming powerfully alongside the boat! Because the island is not as developed as Maui, Oahu, or Kauai, and the human population is small, the corals and other reef life have more space and time to thrive. You will love exploring the snorkel sites here. Whether you get the chance to see the wide-ranging coral reef of Manele Bay, or the unique reef life surrounding Shark Fin Rock, this Lanai snorkeling tour will leave you with lasting marine life memories.
You’ll board Quicksilver at the world-renowned Lahaina Harbor in the morning, when the seas and breeze are usually calm. While sitting on either of our two decks in comfort on the west shore of Maui, if you squint and look across the Maui Nui Basin, you can almost see Manele Bay on the south shore of Lanai. Shark Fin Rock, on the other hand, is not at all visible until your double-decked vessel rounds the west coast of the island, and brings you past even more amazing landforms. Some, like Sweetheart Rock, come to us steeped in Hawaiian legend. Quicksilver’s engaging captain and crew – always full of aloha – will bring these ancient tales to life as they narrate your time at sea.
This family-friendly Lanai snorkeling tour is sure to satisfy everyone, from first-timers to those more experienced with the thrilling sport. All snorkel gear, flotation devices, and snorkel instruction is included on Quicksilver. You can rent wetsuits and underwater cameras! There is also an exciting water slide, a freshwater shower to rinse off the salt, and even a glass-bottom viewing area so you can see underwater while staying dry!
You’ll enjoy a filling breakfast, tasty BBQ lunch, and all kinds of drinks during your half day (5.5 hour) excursion. Feel free to enjoy adult beverages once your water time is through; the crew is watching out for you both in and out of the ocean, and one thing’s for sure: alcohol and snorkeling don’t mix safely. And in case you’re wondering, two on-board restrooms are available for your convenience.
We’d be delighted to host you and your family on the Quicksilver, and guide your exploration of Lanai’s remote underwater world with one of the best Maui snorkeling tours.
Are you ready for this epic Lanai snorkeling tour? Awesome! Let’s go!
